Three River Pieces, 2024

7-channel sound installation (hydrophone recordings of rivers, saxophone recordings); documentary video projection of the recording process in a loop with 3D scans of the locations; 3D-printed objects: three frogs, two cat masks, glove tool; three latex organ skins with graphic notation/score of the three rivers; three pink steel frames in 16:9 video format in three sizes and three pink steel river lines, produced in collaboration with Yamada Tech near the Tsurumi River

The work consists of three river pieces: one for the Ōoka River, one for the Katabira River and one for the Tsurumi River, which flow through the city of Yokohama.

It’s an acoustic monument that shows the sensitive connection between places and bodies of water - these rivers are crossed by important transport lines, flow to the harbour and have a significant historical background.

The embodied work is about connecting with the flowing environment of places and public mourning by the water by listening to the rivers through a hydrophone while playing the saxophone on the riverbank.

The ‘organ skins’ that show the score of the river recordings are a kind of graphic notation and drawing of the recording locations on latex casts of the artist's organ.
